About the blog

Joan

They say personal blogs are dead. I guess it is, in a way. The blogs I used to read no longer exists; the bloggers all grew up, and stopped writing. Everyone has their own reason for doing so, either because there’s not enough time what with a growing family and responsibilities, or because somehow as we grow older, we are all a little more reticent in sharing our inner thoughts.  I too, have taken a long hiatus from posting anything, not because I don’t have time (let’s admit it- if we want, we’d find time for anything), but more so because I was afraid of over-sharing.  I’m back now, because of a handful of friends who encouraged me to do so. Keep writing, they say. And so, I shall. Let this blog be the chronicles of what an Asian immigrant woman doctor observes in this complicated messy world we live in, and how she makes sense of the world around her.  If you don’t know me, and somehow found this blog, I hope you will read my stories with an open heart, with a bit less judgment, and a bit more patience. Know that my thoughts and opinions come from a place of sincerity and benevolence. If our opinions and beliefs differ, I welcome you to share yours in a polite and respectful manner. We can always choose to ‘agree to disagree’ and part amicably.  I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again- the world truly could use a bit more kindness.  In any case, thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoy your time here. Welcome to my personal journey in this thing called Life!

“In life we do things. Some we wish we had never done. Some we wish we could replay a million times in our heads. But they all make us who we are, and in the end they shape every detail about us. If we were to reverse any of them we wouldn’t be the person we are. So just live, make mistakes, have wonderful memories. But never, ever, second guess who you are, where you have been, and most importantly where it is you’re going.” – Unknown

About me

I am an internist who currently resides in Maine after my internal medicine training.  For a long time, I wasn’t sure if I should be open about personal details, and whether I should strive to be a little more private.  The thing is, as we already know- in this current day and age, there is no such thing as true privacy.  If one doesn’t want anyone to know, one should not keep any social media footprint in the World Wide Web. That’s hard to do, and I definitely already put out tons of personal stuff out there.  I’ve kept a blog for a long time, and though I haven’t updated it much during residency, I’m hoping to be sharing more.
